A common question when it comes to feeding horses is whether or not they should be fed after being ridden. The rule of thumb is to wait an hour after you ride your horse. This is because you don’t want to feed the horse while they are still hot. You want to ensure that your horse has had plenty of time to cool down after your ride to prevent any chance of colic.
On a similar note, you also don’t want to ride your horse right after he has eaten. It is ideal to give him an hour to digest his food before being ridden. You can ride a horse that has only been eating hay or grass though.

What if you went on a long ride. Can you still feed them if they need it?

Yes, but you want to make sure they are adequately cooled down and relaxed. For instance, if you went on a long trail ride, give them time to relax and cool out before feeding them.
